DESCRIPTION:
===================================================================================================

Just Cause 3 often seems the ultimate violation of that old rule: "show, don't tell".

Wherever you fight enemies, you are bombarded with self-evident dialogue and lazy writing; things
no real person would ever say in any combat situation. Compounding this, many lines are delivered
with the energy of someone reading cover sheets from a TPS report (this affects DLCs especially).
As a result, combat often draws the player OUT of the game, and even warps the perspective from the
main character onto the soldiers themselves (a video game version of breaking the fourth wall).

This mod removes any voice lines that are disruptive to the player's immersion and enjoyment of the
game. Specifically, the following classes of voice lines have been replaced with silence. Note that
the example column has ACTUAL voice lines spoken in the game, in all their cringe-worthy glory:

+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Type                    | Example                         | Motivation to Remove                |
+=========================+=================================+=====================================+
| Unrealistic attitudes | "Burning. Repeat: I am on | No one is so matter-of-fact about |
|                         | fire."                          | self-immolation.                    |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Bizarre vocabulary | "*ugh* Taking damage!" | Would any person ever say something |
| | | like this when SHOT? Cursing makes |
|                         |                                 | sense; mechanical jargon does not.  |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Stating the obvious | "Insurgent is targeting | In a military base...duh? This is |
| | military assets." | frustratingly common in the DLC. |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Passive phrasing | "We have a burning asset in | This sounds more like a PA system, |
| | the sector." | with none of the urgency or concern |
|                         |                                 | any real person would convey.       |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Exposure of tactics | "I'm behind him; taking the | If you are about to surprise a foe, |
| | shot!" | would you TELL them? A sad trend in |
| | | modern games is to "intercept" the |
|                         |                                 | enemy's transmissions. Sounds good  |
| | | on paper, but in practice it makes |
|                         |                                 | enemies look stupid; wouldn't they  |
| | | catch on and encode their comms? |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Internal communications | "Target is using a tank." | We would rarely hear any soldier |
| | | conveying this to HQ (guns are VERY |
| | | loud; suit radios are quiet). This |
|                         |                                 | also conveys no new information.    |
|                         |                                 | Players KNOW when they are using a  |
| | | tank; must we remind them of it? |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Unnecessary statements | "Down the chopper, now." | If the enemy you are attacking is |
|                         |                                 | in a helicopter, why WOULDN'T you   |
|                         |                                 | take it down? That's your JOB!      |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Contextual goofs | "You need to be more careful." | These lines are problematic only by |
| | | their game context. This example is |
| | | spoken after an officer sees you |
| | | BLOW SOMETHING UP in front of them. |
|                         |                                 | Um...what? It may work in another   |
| | | context, but not in this one. |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+
| Poor voice acting | Varies | Some lines look right on paper, but |
| | | are delivered so poorly that they |
| | | bring your focus out of the game. |
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+-------------------------------------+

All other enemy sounds have been left intact. This includes: grunting when hit, idle conversations
between soldiers and civilians, and story dialogue. This mod is designed to work alongside my Radio
Silence mod, which does the same thing for radio operators (as I call them, "radio commentators").

Normally unused voices (such as the DRM) are also affected, making this mod compatible with other
mods that restore those factions or bring those voice lines back into the game.

All DLCs are included. Only English voice lines are changed.

Note: if you want to restore a specific line, but keep this mod's other changes, all you need to do
is delete that voice file from the dropzone folder. You can use my Audio Tools mod to extract and
browse the removed audio files.

REQUIREMENTS:
===================================================================================================

Just Cause 3
DLCPacker by neam (https://videogamemods.com/justcause3/mods/dlc-packer-dlc-mod-tool/)

NEW TO MODDING JUST CAUSE 3? READ THIS:
===================================================================================================

If you have not done so previously, you must set up Just Cause 3 to enable mods (this only needs to
be done once; after that, you don't need to worry about it ever again)

My Audio Tools mod contains both an illustrated guide and no-fuss approach to doing this. You can
also find other guides online if you prefer.

In short, you need to set your launch options to one of the following (whichever works for you):

     --vfs-fs dropzone --vfs-archive patch_win64 --vfs-archive archives_win64 --vfs-archive dlc_win64 --vfs-fs

      --vfs-fs dropzone --vfs-archive patch_win64 --vfs-archive archives_win64 --vfs-archive dlc_win64 --vfs-fs.

       --vfs-fs dropzone --vfs-archive patch_win64 --vfs-archive archives_win64 --vfs-archive dlc_win64 --vfs-fs .

and you must then create a set of dropzone folders in your main game directory:

    C:\...\Just Cause 3

        --> dropzone
        --> dropzone_mech_dlc
        --> dropzone_sea_heist
        --> dropzone_sky_fortress

and finally, place the DLCPacker by neam in the three DLC folders. To enable mods for Sea Heist,
you must modify dropzone-scheme.xml, as this file is out-of-date in most DLCPacker downloads. You
can also just grab the updated version from my Audio Tools mod, which is much easier.

INSTALLATION:
===================================================================================================

1. Copy the contents of "Just Cause 3" from this mod to your main game directory (for Steam users,
   this can be found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\Just Cause 3").
2. Run the DLCPacker from either dropzone_mech_dlc, dropzone_sea_heist, or dropzone_sky_fortress
   in your main game directory (any folder will do; you only need to run it once).

To uninstall, remove the added files and run the DLCPacker afterwards.
